Test Driving the new Panasonic Lumix FZ2000

In between a very busy day of assignments today I dropped into Hayling Island to test drive the Lumix FZ2000 - a recent addition to the Lumix range of digital cameras which not only boasts a 480mm optical zoom but 4K video with a whole range of features - ideal for my upcoming assignment to Africa where equipment needs to be kept to a minimum and being a bridge camera convenience rules! (I will be taking the trusty Nikon D4S and Fuji XT2 though too for the heavy duty stuff)

This was my first experience of operating this camera and without even looking at the manual I quickly got to grips with the basics. My first worry was the dynamic range would not be up to scratch but even without playing around with the settings I could see this would not be a problem. These images were edited to make use of the moody skies but the raw material was impressive and it took very little time to achieve these results.

I am yet to really explore its potential but the lens is pin sharp, the exposures were consistent, the zoom is fantastic and my techy pal Pete who joined me (with his iPhone) was bowled over by its smooth operation (and he knows his cameras). For me there are rather a lot of custom buttons and I have yet to get used to the focusing options but first impressions are that this little gem will sit nicely alongside my two workhorses and give me the option to really perfect video with ease - I shall keep thee posted on that side of things!

Oh and yes it does do colour - I just chose to edit them to black and white - it suited the subject matter. I think I am going to enjoy using this little beast and look forward to sharing some more stuff soon!
