14th Drama Festival wraps up

Another year completed as the 14th Leatherhead Drama Festival held its Gala Awards Nights in the Leatherhead Theatre and Patron Andrea McLean (pictured with Nick Feeney) was on hand to present the awards to the winners. Unfortunately for me I was unable to attend most of the performance nights due to work commitments (and living too far away!) but what I did see was of the standard we have come used to seeing at this fab event. The Gala Night saw winning Juniors - Reigate Grammar School perform their incredibly energetic and fascinating play - The Darwin Awards followed by the Adult winners - Runnymede Drama Group with the equally excellent Pvt. Wars by James McLure.

After the performances the audience was treated to live music from pupils of the Yehudi Menuhin School before Adjudicator - Paul Fowler GoDA,SASDA, announced all the winners.

Andrea rounded up the evening by expressing how hugely impressed she was by the festival and in particular the two winning performances. One last job of the year went to chairman Wilf Hashimi who acknowledged the work of Festival Organiser Meg Brett who was stepping down from the role after being involved since the very beginning - quite rightly she was given a standing ovation by the audience - the festival requires a great deal of work to put together and Meg and her Husband - former Chairman David Brett, have been largely responsible for much of the success the festival has enjoyed over the years along with the dedicated committee who will meet very soon to prepare for 2018!

Another great evening and well done to all the winners and runners up, see you again next year!
